Get to Know Paul Mortimer

We took some time to get to know members of the TCfIL team. Today's interview is with Paul Mortimer who is part of our design and delivery team.

  • Tell us a bit a bit you - your values, what you’re passionate about?

I’m a 53 yr old grandfather therapist/ supervisor who had a 15 year career as a footballer, and who has had to fight for everything I have. I’ve been told I’m too small, too slow, too injured, not smart enough so many times in my life and chose to fight and find myself where I am because of it. So I guess my passion is injustice, exposing it and fighting it. I lived my dream of playing football and now am a therapist and clinical supervisor, which are I guess more things I’m passionate about.

  • What has been your biggest achievement so far?

Apart from marriage and my children, transitioning from being a professional athlete to becoming a therapist, I truly believed this was beyond me, I’d steered clear of academia as it intimidated me. But I realised I love learning and wish I had the confidence to explore it so much earlier in my life.

  • What attracted you to join TCfIL?

The cause, the people, the learning environment. The chance to help others to understand the impact of inclusion and exclusion from a mental & emotional viewpoint. The chance to work with a talented group of people that challenge and empower me at all times.

  • What has been the best lesson you have learned in your career?

That I am so much more than what I do. I realise that I have so much to give and to offer if I trust in myself more than I do at times.

  • What do you hope to achieve with TCfIL?

To be the best inclusion practitioner that I can. To help TCfIL to be the first thought for anyone who needs support with inclusion in their work and life environments.
